Cancellation of Amazon's Wheel of Time Series Doesn't Halt the Open World RPG Development

Despite the cancellation of the Wheel of Time series on Amazon, a new open-world RPG based on the franchise is still moving forward with experienced developers.

The Wheel of Time series, based on Robert Jordan’s beloved fantasy novels, faced cancellation after its second season aired on Amazon. Although the show improved throughout its run, providing engaging episodes, the high production costs and the lack of the anticipated acclaim led to its end.

Yet, fans can find solace as the development of a video game adaptation is well underway. Announced earlier this year, the open-world RPG promises to exploit the extensive lore of the Wheel of Time universe.

Talent behind the project includes former developers from well-known games: Lori Hyrup, with a background from Dark Age of Camelot, and John Lindemuth, who has contributed to Lord of the Rings Online. Their expertise is essential as the game aims to deliver an immersive experience reflective of Jordan’s expansive storytelling.

Iwot Games is ambitiously claiming the RPG will explore all facets of the Wheel of Time saga, from the main narrative to intricate backstories. Players can expect a true dive into the world they have loved through the novels.

While plans for multi-player or MMO elements haven’t been confirmed, this project stands as a beacon of hope for fans disappointed by the show’s abrupt cancellation.
