EA Finally Addresses the Surge of Players in Star Wars Battlefront 2

Electronic Arts recognizes the significant increase in players for Star Wars Battlefront 2 but disappoints fans by not committing to a sequel.

Electronic Arts has acknowledged the remarkable resurgence in player numbers for Star Wars Battlefront 2, although not exactly as fans desired. The game has experienced a surge in players recently, prompting many to hope for a new installment in the popular series. Unfortunately, EA’s response has been underwhelming, merely inviting players to join their service to experience the game again.

Since its release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017, Star Wars Battlefront 2 ceased receiving updates in 2020. Initially controversial, the game later won much acclaim from players after EA revamped its progression system and improved its microtransaction policies. Despite DICE, the studio behind the franchise, proposing a sequel, EA ultimately rejected the idea due to licensing expenses. Instead, DICE has shifted its focus back to the Battlefield series, while an increase in players for Battlefront 2 has left the community urging EA for a third installment.

EA’s official acknowledgment reflected awareness of the current situation in a new post on their Twitter account, stating that Battlefront 2 is “the talk of the galaxy,” which suggests their intent is to promote their service rather than address the longing for a new game. This was no unexpected outcome, as recent announcements indicated that a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3 would not be on EA’s agenda in the near future, especially after revealing the cancellation of another highly awaited Black Panther game. Consequently, the focus for EA is now on prominent franchises, excluding Star Wars Battlefront from their top priorities.
