I’m a big fan of souls-like games, often exploring their various spinoffs that have improved significantly in recent years. Mortal Shell 2, announced at the Summer Game Fest 2025, looks like a blend straight from a heavy metal album cover of the early 2000s and the announcement trailer is delightfully juvenile.

The trailer showcases elements like shotguns and intense, bloody finishers, along with boss designs reminiscent of games like Resident Evil: Village. If you imagine Doom Guy wielding a claymore and letting loose, that’s the vibe Mortal Shell 2 brings.
The official Steam page describes a dynamic class system—players can possess different Shells to unlock unique strengths and abilities, evolving their combat style as they uncover lost memories. It also promises a combat system that is ‘unrestricted by stamina,’ aligning it more with action-oriented titles like Ninja Gaiden rather than traditional souls-like mechanics seen in games like Elden Ring. Preparing to face a boss, armed with a .357, promises a particularly satisfying experience.
With previous entries receiving praise, including an 80 rating in our review, excitement for Mortal Shell 2 is building!
