The battle royale mode for Splitgate 2 is officially available now, as revealed by Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, during the Summer Game Fest. In his presentation, he donned a humorous “MAKE FPS GREAT AGAIN” hat while critiquing the current state of first-person shooters.
Quote from Ian Proulx:
“I grew up playing Halo, and I’m tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year. And I wish we could have Titanfall 3. With Splitgate 2, we asked ourselves how we can take portals to the next level.” (Translation: I am frustrated by the repetitive nature of annual shooter releases and nostalgic for the innovation seen in games like Titanfall.)
Proulx hinted at the idea of utilizing portals in a broader context, blending traditional FPS gameplay with larger-scale battle royale elements. Splitgate Battle Royale is now free to play, offering a fresh take in a bustling genre. As Proulx aptly put it, “it’s fucking awesome.”
The juxtaposition of classic FPS mechanics with contemporary battle royale madness is an interesting twist that aims to redefine how players experience shooters today.
