In a bizarre incident, a Gamestop store on Staten Island has allegedly been stapling customer receipts to boxes of the new Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. While this might not seem significant, the lack of protective material between the outer layer and the LCD screen has resulted in customers discovering holes in their newly purchased devices.
This issue first came to light on Reddit, where a user named Konflick noted the complaints regarding their damaged screens. Although the original post was deleted by moderators, another user, Wario 64, shared photographic evidence showing the damage.
Apparently one GameStop store used a stapler to attach receipts to Switch 2 boxes and the staple ruined the screen…
More reports from users, including Oadland Lynch, have surfaced, sharing similar experiences of damaged displays.
Despite the unusual circumstances, it seems that Gamestop is addressing the issue. They have confirmed that affected customers are receiving replacements swiftly. A spokesperson stated:
“These occurrences were isolated to a single store in Staten Island, NY. The affected customers—who represented a very small fraction—were swiftly given replacements.”
Moving forward, this incident raises concerns over the packaging and handling practices of fragile electronics, especially during busy launches.
