I am ready to be Xtreme.
The name Tokyo Xtreme Racer carries a nostalgic charm reminiscent of the early 2000s. Just launched on Steam, this new entry from Studio Genki, the first in nearly two decades, has garnered a sizable following with over 4,700 reviews and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating after only four days of early access.
Having not been particularly keen on racing games, with the exception of my time with Need For Speed: Most Wanted, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer ‘25 experience is shaking things up. It uniquely scratches that itch for high-octane fun, despite my typical preference for realistic simulations. This game dazzles with its vibrant atmosphere, a soundtrack that shifts from jazzy funk to retro jungle sounds, reminiscent of the adventurous spirit promised to us back in the day.
Among the multitude of enthusiastic reviews lies admiration for TXR ‘25’s engaging gameplay mechanics, its nostalgic essence, and the compelling single-player experience. This game encourages players to hunt for rivals out on the streets of a stylized near-future Tokyo, providing a mix of structured play and self-directed adventure.
