Deltarune Takes the Top Spot on Steam After Chapters 3 and 4 Release

Deltarune's latest chapters have launched, making it the best-selling game on Steam.

As anticipated, Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 have been released, and they quickly rose to the top of the Steam best-sellers list. This title remains incredibly popular, currently ranking as both the top-selling and among the most-played games on the platform.

Following the announcement of the release date in April—a date that experienced some confusion when a Nintendo Switch trailer previously pegged it for June 5—it turned out that the actual launch happened rather quietly. Notably, there’s been no official notification on Steam; the game’s page still marks these chapters as “coming soon.” Nevertheless, the excitement among fans is unmistakable, especially within the Deltarune subreddit.

At present, Deltarune occupies three spots within the Steam top-ten best-sellers list, marking an incredible feat.

The first Deltarune chapter debuted in 2018, followed by the second in 2021, with both being released for free. Toby Fox, the creator, originally stated that the subsequent chapters would not be free, but the lengthy delay in delivering would also suggest he was not rushing to capitalize on sales. It’s only now, after four years of vague updates and reassurance of progress, that the game is offered at a price of $25, yet the first two chapters remain free for new players.

“HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN. DAYS THAT FELT LIKE YEARS. YEARS THAT FELT LIKE DAYS. AND YET, NO MATTER HOW MUCH TIME PASSES, IT STILL TREMBLES. OUR BEAUTIFUL CONNECTION. I CAN FEEL IT QUICKENING NOW. HOW LUCKY WE ARE TO NEED EACH OTHER IN THIS WAY.”
— Toby Fox (as seen in a Bluesky post prior to the release)

With the newly launched chapters now available, Deltarune can be found for purchase on Steam. players are still able to download the demo to experience the earlier chapters for free.
