Linux Sees Incremental Rise Among Steam Users as Windows Dominance Continues

The latest Steam survey reveals a slight growth in Linux usage among gamers to 2.69%, although Windows remains the predominant operating system.

It’s that time again where we look to Steam’s monthly survey and all feel slightly better about our own rigs. Just for starters, it may not be possible to afford the latest Nvidia card, but surely you can take solace knowing that neither you nor I are part of the 37% of Steam users still using Windows 10?

The latest stats show a modest rise in Linux users on Steam, now at 2.69%, a small increase from previous numbers. While the transition isn’t exactly a mass migration from Windows—especially with Microsoft’s dominance at approximately 95.45%—the results are still noteworthy.

Steam has also introduced a compatibility rating for third-party devices, hinting at a sustained commitment to expand SteamOS across a variety of hardware.

For those on the fence, Steam’s guide makes it possible for you to install SteamOS on select handheld PCs, should you wish to explore outside the Windows ecosystem.
