Old School RuneScape's Private Server Initiative Currently on Hold as Jagex Shifts Focus
Jagex has indefinitely paused the Project Zanaris effort related to Old School RuneScape private servers, redirecting developer resources to enhance the game.
Jagex has announced that the Project Zanaris initiative, aimed at implementing private servers for Old School RuneScape (OSRS), is on an indefinite pause. This decision comes as developers are being reassigned to focus on improving existing aspects of OSRS.
“We understand that feelings around the project were mixed, and many of the concerns raised were fair. The truth is, there are other areas of the core Old School experience that deserve more attention right now.”
The team noted that, instead of concentrating on Zanaris, they want to prioritize existing systems and content that impact players today. Future developments will still reflect insights gained from the original design of Zanaris, enhancing aspects like server infrastructure and gameplay events. Additionally, community-led events similar to those proposed in Zanaris will still be explored.
For future reference, Jagex reassured that the pause of Project Zanaris is unrelated to the recent layoffs the company experienced.
