A Pokémon fan recently found an elusive Mew card in their father’s shed, which soon made its way online. The Pokémon franchise has remained immensely popular among fans of diverse age groups, with trading cards being a common collectible item that showcases their affection for the characters including Pikachu and their companions.

Mew is highly cherished among Pokémon enthusiasts, first appearing in physical cards in the year 2000. That year, Wizards of the Coast introduced a card known as Mew card (Wizards Promo 8), which was part of the Wizards Black Star Promos series. Since then, this mythical Pokémon has graced 36 additional cards, many being variants fans are familiar with, including a tag team version with Mewtwo and the popular “Bubble Mew” card. Just recently, another iconic Mew card was discovered by a passionate collector.

On the Pokémon TCG subreddit, user under_PAWG_story revealed the vintage Mew card found in their dad’s shed. While the images shared do not show the front of the card, community members were able to admire the illustration on its back, as well as the distribution insert in English. This detail is significant as it encourages enthusiasts to join a promotional campaign that was ongoing at the time of the card’s release, which could earn them an exclusive Ancient Mew playmat/poster. Reddit users expressed admiration for this find, with some revealing they own a copy of this unique Pokémon card as well.

Ancient Mew, a card released in 2000, was given to fans in the U.S. and select nations who acquired a ticket to watch The Power of One, the first Pokémon movie, in its opening week. The card is recognized for its stunning golden illustration and vibrant background, along with its details being represented in an art style reminiscent of ancient Egyptian artistry. Current listings for Ancient Mew on eBay show prices ranging from $19.99 to $30, while some copies graded 10 were sold for an astounding $499.99 in 2024.

This kind of discovery emphasizes that although Pokémon primarily targets younger audiences, a significant segment of the community comprises older fans. It’s common to see fans who still retain cherished artifacts from their youth, such as the Ancient Mew card, and who often share the joy of Pokémon with their own children.
