Nintendo is reportedly encountering difficulties in meeting demand for the Switch 2 in Japan, based on a recent survey that shows more than half of potential buyers have not yet secured a console.
According to the survey results, a considerable number of respondents expressed challenges in pre-ordering the Switch 2, which is set to launch on June 5. Throughout April, Nintendo announced their pre-orders went live, assuring enough stock to satisfy initial demand. Despite these assurances, consumers soon found it hard to secure their pre-orders.
The survey, conducted by @2021nZelda, gathered over 31,000 responses, revealing that as of May 30, only 32.7% managed to successfully pre-order the console. This figure presents a significant shift from two weeks prior, where only 25.1% of respondents reported having secured a pre-order.
Nintendo is offering two versions of the Switch 2 in Japan, one of which is a budget model designed exclusively for use with Japanese Nintendo Accounts and games. The existence of this lower-priced version, aimed at making the console more affordable, raises questions about its market appeal relative to the standard model.
As release dates for various models approach, the company faces increasing scrutiny over its supply chain and capabilities, especially amidst concerns over scalping and demand.
