
Nvidia's CEO Highlights Challenges from Chinese AI Rivals Amid New GPU Launch
Nvidia's Jen-Hsun Huang discusses fierce competition from Chinese companies following the unveiling of a new GPU designed by a Chinese startup.
Nvidia’s CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, commented on the increasing threat posed by Chinese competitors shortly after the announcement of a new graphics processing unit (GPU) from a domestic startup. Huang noted, “They are doubling, quadrupling capabilities every year.”
Lisuan Technology, a Chinese firm, has launched a GPU boasting independent architecture and intellectual property, with a performance target akin to Nvidia’s RTX 4060. The project, in development since 2023, has raised questions about its ability to meet performance expectations.
Huang highlighted the burgeoning progress of Chinese companies, mentioning, “Like everybody else, they [Chinese firms] are doubling, quadrupling capabilities every year.” He also emphasized his desire for global AI researchers to predominantly utilize American technology stacks, despite the potential for short-term revenue impact.
