Elden Ring Nightreign Becomes FromSoftware's Lowest-Rated Game on Steam: 'Not the Elden Ring You Expected'

The latest release from FromSoftware, Elden Ring Nightreign, has received mixed reviews since its launch, marking it as the company's least favored game according to Steam ratings.

Is it okay to admit I haven’t finished Elden Ring? While I spent countless hours in The Lands Between, the game didn’t fully engage me, and I’ve been hesitant to revisit it.

However, that doesn’t seem to align with most gamers who appear to favor FromSoftware sticking to what it excels at. The recent game, Elden Ring Nightreign, just launched and has quickly secured its spot as the studio’s lowest-rated title on Steam, currently holding a ‘Mixed’ rating with 66% positive user reviews.

Despite not being classified as ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’, this rating is still below any other game in the FromSoftware catalog, with only one lower score from Dark Souls 3’s Ashes of Ariandel DLC.

Such feedback is unsurprising, as the team at PC Gamer has expressed mixed sentiments about Nightreign. Our reviewer, Tyler Colp, noted the game’s multiplayer-centric approach rendered it distinctly different—far messier than its predecessors. Many players echo sentiments like ‘This is not the Elden Ring game you are looking for,’ or share their struggles against formidable bosses.

While initial feedback has been divisive, it remains to be seen whether opinions will shift as players acclimate to the game’s new mechanics or if it will be forever neglected in the FromSoftware library.
