George R.R. Martin Expresses Frustration Over Constant Pressure for New Books
The acclaimed author of Game of Thrones opens up about the challenges of writing under scrutiny while adapting the works of a deceased friend.
George R.R. Martin, the prolific mind behind Game of Thrones, shared his frustrations regarding the relentless inquiries about his upcoming books. While he acknowledges that his fans are eager for new content, he feels the pressure is mounting. Martin is currently engaged in adapting the works of his late friend, Howard Waldrop, which has added to his commitments.
“I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or The Winds of Winter. You have given up on me, or on the book.”
Martin insists that he holds a deep affection for the characters and narratives he has created, emphasizing his active dedication to his writing projects. He recalls how Waldrop was not only a dear friend but also pivotal in his writing journey. After Waldrop’s passing in January 2024, the process of adapting his friend’s work has taken a significant emotional toll on Martin, who hopes to do justice to Waldrop’s legacy.
