Nvidia's Firmware Update Tool: Solution for Blank Screens on RTX 50-Series GPUs

Nvidia has released a firmware update tool addressing blank screen issues for RTX 50-Series GPUs, primarily targeting the RTX 5060/Ti but likely compatible with the entire series.

If you recently acquired an RTX 50-series GPU and you’re seeing a blank screen during restarts, Nvidia has rolled out a GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool designed to rectify this issue. Although Nvidia has primarily promoted this update for the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti, reports suggest it may work with other RTX 50-series models as well. It’s advised to delay the update until facing specific blank screen problems.

Nvidia stated: > “To ensure compatibility with certain motherboards, an update to the NVIDIA GPU firmware may be required. Without the update, GeForce RTX 5060 series cards [5060 Ti and RTX 5060] in certain legacy motherboards could experience blank screens on reboot. This update should only be applied if blank screens are occurring on reboot.”

Additionally, an Nvidia support representative mentioned that, despite the official focus on the RTX 5060 series, the firmware should work for all RTX 50-series cards. This update isn’t meant to enhance general performance or thermals but is specifically aimed at resolving black screen issues stemming from motherboard compatibility.

Overall, unless experiencing the black screen issue, it might be wise to hold off on this update, as firmware adjustments can involve inherent risks. If you do encounter blank screen problems, you can visit Nvidia’s support page to obtain the update.
