Nvidia's RTX 5090 Sees Price Drop in the UK Amid US Tariff Chaos
The price of Nvidia's RTX 5090 has dipped below MSRP in the UK as market dynamics shift, although US consumers still face inflated prices.
As I pen this, just under six months after its release on January 30, you can finally snag an RTX 5090 for less than Nvidia’s suggested retail price, prompting celebrations among UK users.
However, buyers in the US find themselves in a different situation. The 5090’s MSRP stands at $1,999 in the States, and it rarely, if ever, appears at that price.
In the UK, though, the 5090’s MSRP is £1,889. For instance, Overclockers UK offers the Palit GeForce RTX 5090 GameRock 32GB for £1,879.99, just under the list price. While it’s hardly dramatic, it’s certainly a welcome change considering the high markups we’ve seen.
Conversely, the US markets continue to brutalize buyers with excessive prices. At Newegg, the least expensive RTX 5090 fetches about $2,919.99, which nonetheless signals some progress since at least units are available now.
Across Europe, the RTX 5090 is notable for being priced below the MSRP of 2,339 Euros in some instances, though quick searches reveal growing demand and competitive pricing that are still evolving.
The broader context, taking into account price trends, suggests that the GPU market might be returning to normalcy. Following the excesses fueled by both cryptocurrency mining and the pandemic, availability is finally improving.
In regions like the UK, many of the Nvidia RTX 50 series models are available at MSRP or even lower, though AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT remains stubbornly overpriced at approximately £660.
As the US market grapples with varying tariffs and demand, we hope for a shift towards more reasonable prices as supply stabilizes. However, the shifting tariff landscape, influenced by the Trump administration, leaves uncertainty in its wake.
