Valve Acquires Cache Map from Creator: 'They Reached Out to Purchase It Immediately, an Honor I Cherish'

Valve has secured the rights to the fan-favorite Counter-Strike map Cache, solidifying its place in the competitive roster following its introduction in CS2.

Valve has officially announced the acquisition of the cherished Counter-Strike map, Cache, from its co-creator, Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling. The transaction followed Cache’s addition to the CS2 Workshop earlier this year. Notably, Valve’s interest was immediate; FMPONE shared, “They reached out to buy it on day one, a great honor and I don’t want anyone to think we hesitated for one moment.”

Background of Cache

Cache, which first debuted in 2014, has captivated players, remaining a staple in CS:GO’s competitive scene until its last inclusion in 2019. Its Workshop version not only revitalizes the beloved map but also ensures it’s a permanent feature in Counter-Strike’s evolving landscape.

FMPONE expressed gratitude for the longstanding journey of Cache, acknowledging Sal Garozzo’s original work and praising Valve for recognizing its value. With its new home secured, Cache is poised to return to competitive play, marking a significant milestone in Counter-Strike’s history.
