AMD's Chief States There's Still Demand for 8GB GPUs in 2025

Frank Azor from AMD argues for the continued relevance of 8GB graphics cards, as most gamers are using 1080p setups.

The chief architect of AMD’s gaming solutions, Frank Azor, has recently emphasized the ongoing need for affordable graphics cards featuring 8GB of VRAM. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he highlighted that most gamers are still utilizing 1080p resolutions and typically do not require more than 8GB of memory. “The majority of gamers play esports titles and we will not produce products without a market,” he noted, suggesting that for those who need more, AMD also provides a 16GB option with the same core GPU.

According to the Steam Hardware Survey, a significant 55.27% of gamers are gaming on 1080p monitors. Interestingly, the GTX 1650, equipped with only 4GB of VRAM, remains one of the most popular GPUs among Steam users even in 2025. Azor contended that the upcoming 8GB RX 9060 XT, priced at approximately $299, aligns well with the needs of budget-conscious gamers. He stated:

“The majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p and have no use for more than 8GB of memory… If 8GB isn’t right for you then there’s 16GB. Same GPU, no compromise, just memory options” (Frank Azor, May 22, 2025).
