LucasArts’ iconic adventure game Full Throttle marked its 30th anniversary recently. However, Double Fine, the studio behind it, is now on a mission to unveil the game’s exact release date.
During their preparation for the celebrations, the studio found itself with conflicting information about the original launch date of Full Throttle. While various sources cited dates such as April 30, 1995, April 20, and even May 19, the studio had no concrete evidence to support any of these claims.
Peter Silk, a Customer Support Specialist at Double Fine, took it upon himself to investigate this puzzling inconsistency. According to Silk, he found that Full Throttle’s release timing may be clouded by the game not being available at the expected date of April 30, which was also a Sunday in 1995—a day when many retail stores were closed.
His thorough research led him to various newspaper archives and even an advertisement from the Daily Record in Scotland, which advertised Full Throttle as being available on May 19, 1995. Although the investigation did not yield a definitive answer, he speculated that the true release date could possibly be May 19, as players began seeking help for the game shortly afterward.
Ultimately, Silk concluded that the timeline surrounding Full Throttle’s launch remains ambiguous, calling into question how the gaming world acknowledges a title’s official debut.
