FTC Concludes Case Against Microsoft's Huge Purchase of Activision Blizzard

The long-standing legal struggle has come to an end as the FTC withdraws its case against Microsoft’s acquisition.

Despite being approved in 2023, the FTC had continued its appeal regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This protracted legal battle has finally concluded with the FTC deciding to drop its case against Microsoft in order to focus on other priorities.

The commission cited the public interest as a reason behind this decision, according to its filing.

As reported by The Verge, this development comes shortly after the FTC lost its preliminary attempts to block the acquisition.

“The Commission has determined that the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case,” stated the FTC.

Smith expressed relief with the outcome, stating:

“Today’s decision is a victory for players across the country and for common sense in Washington, D.C. We are grateful to the FTC for today’s announcement.”

This resolution ends a significant chapter for Microsoft and raises questions about future practices in acquisitions within the video game industry, especially regarding consumer interests and corporate responsibilities.
