Showrunner of The Last of Us Reveals Four-Season Plan to Conclude Narrative
Craig Mazin, the mind behind HBO's The Last of Us adaptation, outlines the intention to conclude the story in four seasons rather than three.
In an interview with Collider, Craig Mazin, the showrunner of the TV adaptation of The Last of Us, confirmed that the series is likely to conclude after four seasons. This is not the first mention of a four-season plan, as Mazin hinted at this back in 2023, but his latest confirmation indicates that fans will have plenty more to enjoy before the story wraps up.
Mazin explained, “It’s such a narrative nuclear bomb that it’s hard to wander away from it. We can’t really take a break and move off to the side and do a Bill and Frank story.” He noted that while there would be freedom in season three, it would still be impossible to complete the narrative in just three seasons. He added, “Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.”
With the series’ continued success, sustaining viewer interest should not be an issue, especially since it was recently confirmed that The Last of Us will be returning for a third season.
