Helldivers 2's Heart of Democracy Update Introduces Urban Battles and New Features

The latest update for Helldivers 2 adds urban maps and new gameplay elements, enhancing the battle against the Illuminate.

Overview

Helldiver—bad news, Super Earth is officially under attack. As speculated in a recent leak, the significant weapon customization update wasn’t the last from Shams Jorjani and his team. Now, the official title update, Heart of Democracy, has been released.

With this update, fully urban city maps are introduced, enhancing the experience compared to previous Illuminated environments. Expect skyscrapers, bustling streets filled with civilians, and SEAF Redshirts, who are designed to give you a stylish edge as they valorously protect democracy.

“The worst nightmare of all those who fight for Managed Democracy has been made a grim reality,” states a Steam announcement.

Urban Challenges and New Gameplay Mechanics

Despite the valiant efforts of the Helldivers to repel the fleet, the Illuminate have reached Super Earth. They are currently swarming cities and terrorizing citizens, necessitating an immediate response to the call for arms. Players must now engage in operations to liberate these cities, which will significantly impact planetary campaigns.

Moreover, mission types include re-arming and activating planetary defense cannons, a feature whose previous deactivation remains unexplained. Alongside urban combat, SEAF troops are now available to assist players in navigating objectives, especially since the Illuminate introduces a horrific giant worm antagonist to cut through amidst civilians.

“You must also be aware of the many civilians still roaming the streets… Remember: any civilian lives lost from friendly fire will be punished.”

This presents a hilariously chaotic challenge for players, especially with the presence of Voteless citizens blending into the battlefield. The update is currently live, allowing players to engage in protecting Super Earth right away.
