Buffalo’s New USB Drive Features Real-Time Anti-Malware Protection
The Buffalo RUF3-KEV may seem like an ordinary USB drive, but it is equipped with notable security features. This device includes an embedded anti-malware system that actively monitors files stored on the drive for threats in real-time. It also comes with a built-in antivirus scanner to inspect file transfers for potential malware.
The USB drive is available in various capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB and has a capless design that prevents dust from accumulating inside.
Unfortunately, the drive is currently only sold in Japan. Buffalo does operate in the US as well, so there’s a chance it could be available in other markets in the future or via international shipping.
Even with its high-level security technologies, caution is warranted. Years of cybersecurity training instill doubts about the safety of using a USB drive that was found in a public place. Flash drive-based cyber attacks are a recognized concern, and incidents have been noted, such as a cyberespionage group using malware-delivered USB drives.
Related Concerns: A study conducted in 2016 showed that many individuals readily plug in USB drives they find in parking lots, recalling the importance of maintaining a cautious approach regarding found USB devices.
In conclusion, while Buffalo is making strides in USB security solutions, users should remain vigilant and refrain from using unknown or found USB drives.
