Netflix's Anticipated Gears of War Film Might Finally Have a Director
David Leitch is reportedly in talks with Netflix to direct the long-delayed Gears of War adaptation.
The long-awaited adaptation of the Gears of War franchise by Netflix may finally be thriving as David Leitch enters negotiations to direct. Previously, Netflix secured the movie rights in late 2022, with a plan to usher in a feature film followed by an animated series. However, little progress has been communicated since the acquisition.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, while Leitch is reportedly in talks for the director role, the deal remains unsigned.
David Leitch boasts an intriguing background, transitioning from a stuntman involved in projects such as Blade and The Matrix to a director. His portfolio includes notable works such as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train. Leitch’s next film, The Fall Guy, is set to feature Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
The expectation is that Leitch, alongside his partner Kelly McCormick, will produce the film, while script duties are reportedly handled by Jon Spaihts, known for his work on the Dune series and the contentious Prometheus.
Fans are eager for more Gears of War, especially since the last major game release, Gears 5, arrived about six years ago, and a prequel titled Gears of War: E-Day was announced recently.
