Scalpers Target Gamers with Overpriced RTX 5090 Graphics Cards
Scalpers are trying to take advantage of gamers by flipping the soon-to-be-released NVIDIA RTX 5090 graphics cards for prices reaching up to $7,000 on eBay.
Marginally less likely than the eventual heat death of the universe is the fact that scalpers are looking to cash in on NVIDIA’s latest high-end GPU. The product is not officially set to go on sale until January 30, yet listings are already available on eBay.
Many sellers appear to have no legitimate stocks of the RTX 5090, claiming various dubious methods of securing their units. One seller plans an all-nighter at a Micro Center to snatch as many units as possible.
“I’ll be standing in line at Micro Center and try to get as many as possible, so this is a presale. I’ll ship these as soon as I can,” the listing states.
Another listing purports to be from a retailer’s employee promising guaranteed access to several RTX 5090s, with bids starting at $2,750. As the current auctions stand, one overclocked Asus variant is listed for a staggering $7,000.
With the RTX 5090 having an MSRP of $2,000, the inflated prices being asked raise questions about availability and what real-world prices will settle at once the product officially launches.
This trend of scalping is expected to continue, leaving potential buyers to navigate eBay’s perilous waters to avoid being taken advantage of.
