Introducing the Acer Nitro PG1: A Portable Monitor with 4K Resolution and 144 Hz Refresh Rate
A detailed review of the Acer Nitro PG1, the first portable monitor worth having with its impressive 4K resolution and high refresh rate.
I’ve reviewed several portable monitors previously, but none have sparked my desire until now. The new Acer Nitro PG271K stands out with its combination of 4K resolution, sleek design, and high refresh rate—albeit with a slight caveat.
The monitor features a 27-inch IPS panel boasting a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels. A majority of portable monitors usually settle for 1080p, which doesn’t cut it in terms of pixel density; this is a clear win.
Furthermore, it offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz, but here’s the catch: this rate only applies at 1080p resolution. When operating at its native 4K, the refresh rate drops to 72 Hz, which is slightly disappointing.
Acer has not clarified the specific details regarding its connections, although it likely sports both mini-HDMI and USB-C ports. However, the power source remains ambiguous—is it USB-C, an external supply, or possibly battery-operated? The price is anticipated to hover around EUR 499 or £429, approximately $500.
Despite the expected limitations in contrast and HDR performance of an IPS monitor when compared to OLED, the price presents clear value. All things considered, the Acer Nitro PG1 is shaping up to be an essential addition for gamers seeking portable yet effective display solutions.
