Microsoft 365 Apps for Windows 10 Will Remain Supported Until 2028
Microsoft has announced an extension for security updates to the Windows 10 version of its Microsoft 365 applications until October 2028.
If you weren’t aware, Microsoft will end official support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Yet, they are mitigating the impact of this cutoff by providing extensions for certain conditions.
The recent announcement states that the Windows 10 version of the Microsoft 365 app suite—comprising PowerPoint, Word, and Excel—will receive security updates until October 10, 2028. The Verge indicates that despite the extension, Microsoft still recommends users transition to Windows 11, particularly if they experience issues that can’t be solved on Windows 10.
This is a significant shift from earlier beliefs that the Microsoft 365 apps would cease their support alongside the OS. A previously unauthorized post had claimed support would end in 2025, but Microsoft clarified that this information was misleading.
While Windows 10’s end is approaching, options remain for users. Those keen on staying with Windows 10 might consider third-party security patches or pursuing an upgrade to Linux, as outlined in relevant guides.
