This Looks Fungi: A First-Person Roguelike Where Exploration and Combat are Uniquely Separated

The 'Shroom and Gloom' demo brings a fresh take on roguelike gameplay with dual decks for combat and exploration.

A demo for Shroom and Gloom is available on Steam now.

With a unique first-person perspective, this roguelike game invites players to engage with its environment differently. Instead of the traditional fixed views, players hold cards while navigating maps and explore through tunnels and passageways.

This game incorporates a double deckbuilder mechanism, utilizing one deck for combat and a separate one for exploration. Players can acquire new cards, rest, and make purchases seamlessly in the game world.

The enemies? They are quirky, lumpy mushroom creatures that add a humorous twist to the battles. Combating involves utilizing various cards, such as knives for melee strikes and roast cards for attacks, transforming defeated mushrooms into health-restoring snacks.

As players progress, they encounter tougher foes and build stronger decks, which can include cards for health restoration. The demo showcases a boss character whose defeat leads to resurrection with a portion of health.
