G2 secures a place in the finals with a convincing victory over BIG, led by malbsMd's standout performance.
G2 has advanced to the final day of group action at PGL Astana 2025 after decisively defeating BIG 2-0, thanks in large part to malbsMd’s stellar gameplay.
After an arduous start in Astana with two initial losses, G2 bounced back impressively with a 2-2 standing ahead of the group’s concluding day. malbsMd recorded a remarkable 1.87 rating along with 120 ADR during the clash with BIG. “I believe I’m on the path to recovery, feeling more at ease,” he shared with HLTV despite the team’s earlier setbacks against MIBR and ODDIK, with Coach TaZ by their side.
The victory over BIG signifies a critical advancement as they gear up for an all-or-nothing matchup to ensure playoff qualification. In the Dust2 pick, the G2 team exhibited dominance, flipping a 7-5 half-time lead into a commanding victory with malbsMd showcasing extraordinary skill with a 2.81 rating, accumulating 16 kills.
Following the win, as G2 kept their momentum, they secured the Mirage map effortlessly with a final score of 13-4, establishing their position in the deciding round of the Swiss group’s stage.
Unfortunately for BIG, the defeat marks the end of their journey in Astana. They will not participate in the upcoming IEM Dallas or the BLAST.tv Austin Major, leaving the players with a much-needed break.
JDC, in his reflections on social media, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance, stating, “I feel I was unable to make an impact here in Astana and I’m genuinely upset with my performance.”
The loss raises concerns about the future performance of BIG, as they have struggled against formidable opponents and will need to regroup and strategize moving forward.
