Gex Trilogy Deluxe Edition Unveiled: A $200 Collector's Dream

Limited Run Games has announced a luxurious remaster of the Gex Trilogy, featuring exclusive collectibles and impressive box art from renowned illustrator Yoshitaka Amano.

For better or worse, society must soon reckon with Gex once more. As was previously addressed with no small amount of trepidation in 2023, Limited Run Games is releasing the Gex Trilogy, a remaster collection encompassing all three adventures of this anthropoid lizard that Crystal Dynamics initially introduced in 1995. Recently, Limited Run revealed the Gex Trilogy Tail Time Edition, a $200 collector’s dream featuring not just one but two physical versions of Gex, which you can proudly display in your home.

If you didn’t spend your childhood days gawking at video game rental store selections in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Gex might not be familiar to you. The character is a lizard, almost a secret agent, able to traverse a TV dimension to take on various pop culture personas.

The trilogy’s first installment was a side-scroller, and the sequels propelled Gex into the revered ranks of 3D platforming icons—though perhaps not quite as celebrated as some of his contemporaries, given the lengthy gap before this remaster. Voiced by Dana Gould, Gex was a product of an era that could spin three games from a comedian impersonating a reptile imitating pop culture icons.

Notable Items in the Gex Trilogy Tail Time Edition Include:

  • Gex Trilogy game
  • Tail Time Edition box featuring art by Yoshitaka Amano
  • A PS1-style retro game case
  • Full soundtrack of each game
  • A steelbook adorned with art by Marcos Lopez
  • 36" inflatable Gex doll
  • 7" Gex statue
  • Trading cards
  • A Steam code for the trilogy remaster (for the PC version)

Additionally, there’s a $75 classic edition which only includes the game and retro box, lacking any physical Gex, which some might find inadequate. For those who appreciate Amano’s artistry, his Gex illustration can also be purchased separately as a $50 poster or a $30 $1000-piece puzzle.

The Gex Trilogy will make its debut on Steam on June 16, while preorders for its various physical collections have shipping dates estimated between October and next March. But let’s be honest, after waiting this long, what’s another year for two Gexes?
