AMD Anticipates $1.5 Billion Loss in AI GPU Revenue Amidst Export Limitations While Celebrating Ryzen Chip Success

AMD has reported a significant increase in PC processor revenues but faces challenges in AI GPU sales due to export restrictions.

AMD’s client PC sector is experiencing remarkable growth, with earnings surging by nearly 70% year-over-year. During the recent earnings call, it was revealed that revenues from the Client PC division rose by a substantial 68% compared to the same timeframe last year. This success has primarily stemmed from strong sales of AMD’s Ryzen CPUs, including the acclaimed Ryzen 7 9800 X3D, with CEO Lisa Su branding this latest series as the “CPU of choice for gamers.”

However, not all news is positive. AMD’s Gaming division has reported a stark 30% decline in revenue compared to last year, covering both PC graphics cards and console chips.

Lisa Su remarked that while AI GPU sales have shown a significant double-digit uptick compared to the previous year, the company anticipates a staggering loss of $1.5 billion in AI GPU revenue due to ongoing export restrictions, particularly those affecting sales to China.

Despite these challenges, AMD showcased an overall revenue increase of 36%, bringing their total to $7.4 billion in the latest quarter, albeit still trailing Intel’s reported $7.6 billion for the same period. AMD’s future growth appears promising as they expect improvements in their Gaming division in the upcoming quarter.

For further updates, keep an eye on AMD’s progress as they navigate these hurdles and capitalize on their successful PC processor sales.
