Publisher of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Declares Oblivion Remastered's Impact Was Minimal and Possibly Beneficial
Amid the buzz surrounding Oblivion Remastered, the publisher of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reports that their title thrived, suggesting that the genre was highlighted rather than overshadowed.
In a recent discussion regarding market releases, the publisher behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 addressed the unexpected competition from Oblivion Remastered. The publisher humorously referred to the situation as reminiscent of ‘Barbenheimer’ but emphasized that it did not negatively impact their game. Instead, they captured over 1 million sales within the first week, which suggests the two titles cater to distinct audiences.
Matt Handrahan, Senior Portfolio Director at Kepler, remarked, “We always recognized that Expedition 33 has a unique persona. There are players who enjoy Elder Scrolls yet might not engage with Final Fantasy, and vice versa.”
Handrahan further noted, “Proximity to Oblivion didn’t seem to harm us at all. In many respects, it highlighted quality RPGs, sparking discussions about the genre among players.”
Thus, while both games offer varying experiences, the gaming community’s appetite for RPGs allows ample room for both titles to succeed.
