AMD Unveils Specs for RX 9070 GRE: A China-Only GPU?

AMD has officially detailed the RX 9070 GRE specifications, though the availability is constrained to China for now.

Good news: AMD has finally announced the specifications for the highly anticipated RX 9070 GRE. However, the drawback is that it is currently limited to China, which leaves the rest of the world observing from a distance.

This isn’t entirely unexpected, especially since the RX 7900 GRE started off as a China-only exclusive before being released globally in limited quantities.

The RX 9070 GRE features:

  • 48 Compute Units
  • Boost frequency of up to 2,790 MHz
  • 48 Ray Tracing Accelerators
  • 96 AI Accelerators
  • 96 ROPs
  • A total of 3,072 Stream Processors
  • 12 GB of GDDR6 VRAM on a 192-bit bus

AMD claims that this card achieves an average performance that is 6% faster than the RX 7900 GRE across more than 30 games at 1440p Ultra settings. While this may seem modest, it suggests the RX 9070 GRE is intended to slot in as the entry point in AMD’s latest lineup without overwhelming performance specs when compared to others.

As for pricing, the pre-order rate is set at 4,199 RMB, which translates to around $588. However, comparing Chinese pricing to Western markets remains complicated due to fluctuations in availability and demand worldwide.

Spec RX 9070 GRE RX 9070 RX 9070 XT
GPU Navi 48 XL Navi 48 XT Navi 48 XTX
Stream Processors 3072 3584 4096
Boost Clock 2790 MHz 2520 MHz 2970 MHz
Memory 12 GB GDDR6 16 GB GDDR6 16 GB GDDR6
Memory Bus 192-bit 256-bit 256-bit
TGP 220 W 220 W 304 W

All in all, while the RX 9070 GRE may be positioned as AMD’s most accessible option, its success in Western markets is contingent upon competitive pricing and availability as the brand prepares for future presentations, such as Computex 2025, where more enticing offerings could be revealed.
