League of Legends World Champion Maciej ‘Shushei’ Ratuszniak has died at the age of 36, losing a lengthy battle with cancer.
Shushei gained fame as part of the legendary Fnatic team that clinched the first League of Legends World Championship title, earning the MVP accolade in 2011.
In honor of his monumental win, Riot Games allowed him to select a champion for a tribute skin, resulting in the Fnatic Gragas skin, still available in-game.
Shushei also triumphed in Season 6 of the Intel Extreme Masters and retired from competitive play in 2013. Not only was he respected for his remarkable skills, but he was also cherished in the gaming community, exemplified by his iconic chest bump moment.
“Yesterday, we lost a legend in Shushei,” reads a heartbreaking post from Fnatic’s official account. “Shushei was part of the incredible Fnatic team that won the first-ever League of Legends World Championships back in 2011…”
Esports journalist Richard Lewis expressed his sorrow, reflecting on Shushei’s impact on the early stages of League of Legends, emphasizing his charismatic personality and profound understanding of esports.
“Rest in peace, Shushei, one of the first greats of our game,” shared Eefje Depoortere.
The gaming community remembers Shushei not just for his achievements in gaming, but for his unparalleled contribution to making esports a prominent and respected field.
