Intense Modding Rivalry Emerges Following Unofficial Oblivion Update

A controversial patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has sparked significant backlash within the modding community just days after the game's release.

In the world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the modding community is in turmoil following the release of an unofficial patch, the Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch (UORP), crafted by a noted modder known as Arthmoor. This patch appeared just a week after the official game update on April 22, sparking intense debate.

Mods for Bethesda games have always been a staple, with various well-known patches like Morrowind’s Patch for Purists and others for New Vegas and Starfield leading the way. However, the arrival of UORP has left many in the community angry, dubbing Arthmoor ’notoriously controversial.’ A warning post on the Oblivion Modding subreddit called for users to steer clear of the patch, claiming it could undermine the integrity of the modding scene.

“Don’t use Arthmoor’s new [Oblivion Remastered] patch,” one Redditor advised. This sentiment received significant traction, accumulating over a thousand upvotes, showcasing the divide in the community. The post urged the Oblivion community to disregard Arthmoor’s work, with fears that it might set a precedent for unacceptable practices in modding foes.

History repeats itself; Arthmoor was previously involved in disputes during the Gategate incident within Skyrim where mod users were upset by changes introduced to mods they loved. Similar tensions are flaring up again with UORP.

Despite the backlash, Arthmoor has defended his patch, stating that it corrects previous fixes also adopted by the remaster. He assures players that his motives are driven by a love for the game and improving overall playability. Still, given the ongoing debate and the early stage of the Oblivion Remastered, many users remain skeptical and recommend waiting for further updates before using the patch.
