Ex-GTA Developer Predicts Faster PC Version Release for GTA 6

A former developer at Rockstar discusses the expected timeline for the GTA 6 PC version amidst the company's decisions regarding console releases.

Rockstar may have closed the blog of Obbe Vermeij, a former developer at Rockstar North, but it hasn’t silenced his voice. To commemorate the 17th anniversary of GTA IV’s release, Vermeij shared insights about his time at Rockstar, speculating on GTA VI, and discussing the perceived neglect of PC gaming by the studio.

Vermeij noted that many features were abandoned in GTA IV to prioritize next-gen advancements for the Xbox 360. Features that fans loved from San Andreas, such as multiple cities and additional gameplay mechanics, were replaced to enhance graphics and performance.

Reflecting on the future, he expressed optimism about GTA VI, suggesting that Rockstar’s significant profits may lead to fewer cuts compared to its predecessors. He stressed that while he has no insider: information, he expects future decisions regarding GTA VI to be similar to those made during the development of GTA IV, with potential delays required to meet quality standards.

Vermeij hopes that with the shift in the gaming market, the release of the PC version of GTA VI will be closer to the console launch, rather than trailing behind as has often been the case. He expressed a desire for Rockstar to recognize the growing importance of PC gaming in their business model.
