EA Announces End of Codemasters' Rally Development: A New Chapter for WRC

Electronic Arts reveals that Codemasters will stop making rally games as they plan a new direction for the WRC franchise.

Electronic Arts has declared that the upcoming 2024 season of EA Sports WRC will mark the conclusion of their collaboration with Codemasters on rally games. EA stated, “For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles… We hope it remains a source of joy, excitement, and the thrill of rally racing.”

Rally sports games represent a smaller niche in the gaming market compared to larger franchises like FIFA. Codemasters, known for its rally games since 1998, including titles from the Dirt series, will pivot more towards their F1 racing games.

In a recent update, the FIA indicated a shift towards an “ambitious new direction” for the WRC video game franchise, with further announcements anticipated in the future. The sentiment of concluding a long-standing partnership is evident, yet fans are hopeful for revitalized experiences in the realm of rally racing.

“Over the past three years, WRC has been elevated to another level in the gaming world thanks to the dedication of EA Sports and Codemasters.” - FIA
