Electronic Arts Makes Major Layoffs and Cancels New Games
Electronic Arts has announced significant layoffs and the cancellation of two game projects, including a new installment in the Titanfall franchise.
Electronic Arts has reportedly laid off between 300 and 400 employees, with the Apex Legends studio, Respawn Entertainment, cutting roughly 100 positions. Furthermore, Respawn has cancelled two early-stage projects, one of which was an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe.
“As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth,” stated an EA representative.
Respawn confirmed the layoffs in a carefully worded statement on X (formerly Twitter), avoiding mention of the terms “cancelled” and “layoffs”. Additionally, the studio indicated it would provide support to affected employees, including exploring new opportunities within EA.
The Bloomberg report highlighted that one of the cancelled projects, codenamed R7, was tied to the Titanfall franchise, further disappointing fans. Despite these cuts, Respawn noted its ongoing commitment to player-first experiences.
