Unique Joy-Con Motion Controls in Cyberpunk 2077 for Switch 2
Cyberpunk 2077's Nintendo Switch 2 iteration introduces innovative Joy-Con 2 motion controls for an enhanced gaming experience.
CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature Joy-Con 2 motion controls on the Nintendo Switch 2. This was revealed in a recent developer diary, which detailed how players can control melee weapons by swinging the Joy-Con controllers.
The Switch 2 version was officially unveiled during a Nintendo Direct on April 2, and it will be part of the console’s launch lineup, set to release on June 5, alongside the Switch 2.
Key Features
- Joy-Con 2 motion controls for melee weapon usage.
- The inclusion of gyro aiming is still uncertain.
In addition to the innovative control scheme, CDPR’s VP of Technology, Charles Tremblay, highlighted that the game will leverage Switch 2’s unique features, which include an LCD screen with variable refresh rates. Tremblay suggested that the upcoming console will be the best platform to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 on the go, especially when compared to previous generations like the PS4 and Xbox One, which had performance issues upon launch.
The game will also support cross-progression, enabling save file sharing across different platforms. It is projected to target 1080p resolution when docked and 720p in handheld mode, maintaining a frame rate of approximately 30-40 fps. The Switch 2 version will have two performance modes: Performance and Quality, to optimize the gaming experience.
In conversation with Game File, Tim Green, a programmer at CDPR, stated that the game will be around 64 GB in size on the Switch 2 and will be available in both digital and physical editions, with the latter being fully operational upon insertion without needing an internet connection.
