Swen Vincke has solidified his reputation as a supporter of the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding community by defending the critical role that mods play in gaming. Speaking during an interview with GameSpot’s Tamoor Hussain, Vincke emphasized the importance of modding after the ‘Baldur’s Village Stardew Valley mod’ was temporarily taken down by Wizards of the Coast. Vincke pointed out, “As a company that owns IP, it’s perfectly possible to give somebody a license… Here’s a license. And that solves it.”
Vincke further noted that mods should not only be acknowledged but celebrated as they contribute to the vitality of a game’s ecosystem and its community. He acknowledges that while monetization complicates the matter, fan-made content should generally be welcomed.
He expressed, “If you’re a company… and you have a group of people creating something in honor of your game… it’s a contribution to the entire game’s ecosystem,” adding that popular mods, like those for Skyrim and Warcraft 3, enhance long-term engagement with games.
Finally, Vincke’s mantra, “happy player, happy business,” underscores the essential connection between enjoying gameplay and the health of the business.
