Tenderfoot Tactics Pulled from Xbox Store Amid Political Protest

An indie RPG has been removed from the Xbox platform as part of a boycott against Microsoft, due to its ties with the Israeli military.

An indie RPG called Tenderfoot Tactics has been removed from Xbox’s digital storefront as part of a broader Palestinian protest. Developed by Ice Water Games, this game is no longer purchasable on Xbox consoles as part of an expanding boycott against Microsoft and select other companies.

Previously, Tenderfoot Tactics quietly launched on Xbox One and Series X/S in February 2024, following its initial 2020 launch on PC. The game had garnered a favorable user review score of 82 percent on Steam.

As a supporter of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, Ice Water Games voluntarily withdrew Tenderfoot Tactics due to Microsoft’s alleged connections to the Israeli military.

The BDS campaign has accused Microsoft of supplying crucial services that assist Israeli military operations, particularly in Gaza. This decision follows reports of internal dissension within Microsoft, where two employees were dismissed after protesting at a company event regarding its ties to Israel. The BDS movement has urged consumers to avoid purchasing Microsoft gaming products, including Minecraft, Call of Duty, and Xbox Game Pass, promoting slogans such as “Genocide is not a game.”

This marks the first known instance of a game developer voluntarily removing a title from the Xbox Store in support of the Israeli boycott. Ice Water Games has yet to announce if or when Tenderfoot Tactics will return to Xbox consoles. Microsoft has not publicly addressed the issue.
