Nexus Mods Allows Controversial Oblivion Remastered Mod for Gender Options

Nexus Mods changes its stance and permits a mod that reinstates gender options in Oblivion Remastered amidst community backlash.

Nexus Mods has shifted its policy to allow a mod named Body Type Selector that brings back traditional male and female character options in the upcoming Oblivion Remastered edition. Initially, this mod faced multiple removals due to community outrage and the uploader’s behavior. However, Nexus Mods has now declared that the mod will be permitted, citing the lack of any content policy violation.

The community notice explained that previous deletions stemmed from the uploader’s intent to incite drama rather than the mod’s content itself. The decision recognizes that while discussions about gender identity can be sensitive, they should not overshadow the community’s creativity and expression in modding. Nexus Mods aims to avoid any form of trolling or harassment stemming from these discussions.

A quote from the community notice asserts: “The mod was not taken down because of its content; it was removed due to the uploader’s behavior. We will not tolerate any form of toxicity that these discussions may provoke.”

This policy revision also raises questions regarding the platform’s earlier actions against mods perceived as divisive, especially regarding gender identity and representation in gaming.
