Ubisoft is pleasing fans by reiterating its commitment to introduce an offline mode for The Crew 2, with testing set to commence next week on April 30. The company aims to finalize the offline experience by the end of 2025. However, the developers have cautioned that The Crew Motorfest will require more time for offline support.
In a recent update video, producer Gregory Corgie explained that the offline play will feature a hybrid approach, integrating some online functionalities while limiting others, especially aspects of multiplayer when offline.
“Some features will be maintained, others will be adapted. For instance, specific parts of multiplayer modes will no longer be available when playing offline.”
Translation: Some features will stay, but others, like parts of multiplayer, won’t work offline.
This new mode comes in response to community outcry following Ubisoft’s decision to shut down The Crew, which led to legal and legislative scrutiny regarding digital game ownership. Ubisoft’s proactive approach is earning praise, though players now desire similar treatments for other titles, such as The Division and Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
The current focus remains on ensuring The Crew 2 can operate smoothly in offline mode, while encouraging further discussions about future game development policies regarding connectivity.
