Heavy Aim Assist in Marathon Alpha Surprises Players; Shroud Critiques It

Initial feedback from the Marathon alpha reveals players are shocked by the game's aim assist setup, with prominent streamer Shroud voicing strong opinions against it.

The Marathon alpha is just a day old, but it has already sparked intense discussions within the gaming community. A prominent point of debate is the game’s generous aim assist for PC players, a feature usually confined to console play.

In the alpha settings, this feature is referred to as ‘Aim Magnetism,’ and it is enabled by default. Experienced PC gamers are expressing their dissatisfaction, particularly on the game’s subreddit.

Carmelo_v states: “As someone who plays games like Counter-Strike, I will not be playing this game come launch unless MnK aim assistance is removed and controller players’ aim assistance isn’t excessive.”

Another user, Luh3WAVE, remarked, “Now that we have actually seen the aim assist in action, let’s be honest: it resembles soft aimbot. It has no place in a serious MnK game.”

Shroud weighed in with, “They need to just remove the mouse aim assist stuff. I understand Bungie’s effort to balance crossplay, but it could ruin the PC experience. PC players prefer honing their skills over relying on assistance.”

Gameplay Director Andrew Witts mentioned that the aim assist was still experimental and that they were open to feedback: “It’s something we’re evaluating to maintain balance between mouse and keyboard and controller players. We don’t believe it’s perfect yet, and we are eager to fine-tune it based on player feedback.”

The Marathon alpha is currently accessible until May 4.
