When Oblivion Remastered was first presented, many were curious about its remastering status versus a complete remake.
This edition is indeed a remaster, taking the iconic 2006 title and enhancing it with Unreal Engine 5. Delving into its files reveals that almost all of the original game is still present, following its original structure. To see what’s there, you can navigate to:
[Drive Letter] > SteamLibrary > steamapps > common > Oblivion Remastered > OblivionRemastered > Content > Dev > ObvData > Data.
For those familiar with modding the original Oblivion, this structure will rekindle fond memories.
Most files remain intact, including the configuration files you may have spent hours adjusting. While the executable for the original game is absent, the music and texture folders, along with the original .esm, .esp, and .bsa files, have been preserved. Surprisingly, many of these files match the sizes they held back in 2006.
It’s fascinating to witness how much of the original game is preserved within the Remastered version, showcasing the impressive work done by Virtuos and Bethesda.
