Bethesda has taken the bold step of remastering The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, updating the game’s visuals with Unreal Engine 5 almost two decades after the original release in 2006. This remaster not only revitalizes the game but also comes with a substantial file size of 125 GB, which is a staggering 2600% increase over the original’s mere 4.6 GB.
“It’s out now, it’s $50 (£50), and you even get the horse armor thrown in.”
Translation: It is available at a price of $50, including a special edition horse armor.
With the remaster, Oblivion now jumps from 8th to 7th place in the rankings of the biggest games by install size, ahead of heavyweights like Red Dead Redemption 2. While the upgrade promises visual enhancements, fans remain wary of how their beloved exploits, quirks, and bugs will translate into this new version.
For existing fans, this hefty remaster might offer the nostalgic thrill they have longed for, albeit at a steep data cost.
