Diablo 4's New Season Throw Everyone For a Loop with Unexpected Boss Difficulty

Players express surprise and excitement over the challenge of the first boss in Diablo 4's seventh season.

Diablo 4 players pleasantly surprised to find the first boss of the new season is a challenge for once: ‘it’s nice to actually have to think and prepare for fights’

Season 7 is no cakewalk.

The Diablo series has always had a complex relationship with difficulty. In Diablo 3, for instance, starting on normal would often mean players would scarcely use health potions until much deeper into the game. As many players have discovered, on Diablo 4, the hard mode has become the new normal.

However, the latest seventh season, titled Season of Witchcraft, has shaken things up considerably as players began noticing a significant spike in difficulty. Players are now tasked with tracking down magical heads that have begun to disappear from the Tree of Whispers, guided by a witch named Gelena. A new enemy known as the Enraged Headless Husk is introducing a level of challenge that many gamers view as refreshing rather than frustrating.

Feedback from the Diablo 4 subreddit shows players delighting in this unexpected difficulty increase. One player remarked, “I have 2000 hrs in D4 and my Barb can’t kill him on Hard. Glad it’s not just me.” Another added, “Playing on Hard and had to leave to gather more gear. I enjoy the challenge, it’s nice to actually think and prepare for fights.”

Overall, the response to this season’s difficulty has been positive. With players hunting for better gear and preparing strategically, many feel that they are finally facing a hurdle that warrants the effort.
