MapleStory Marks 20 Years with Classic Server Rollout under Original Game Designer
The MMORPG MapleStory is set to launch Classic World, reviving its nostalgic roots under the guidance of its original lead designer.
MapleStory Classic World has been announced in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary. This upcoming version aims to bring back the nostalgic gameplay style sought after by longtime fans.
Return to the Roots
The desire to revisit classic MMOs shows a strong preference for nostalgia. For instance, Old School Runescape, which reflects the gaming experience from 2007, continues to thrive. Similarly, Blizzard’s launch of World of Warcraft Classic in 2018 marked a significant moment in gaming history, and now MapleStory is ready to join the ranks with its new Classic World.
Hanbyeol Oh states that the new world will be “a faithful recreation of the old school MapleStory experience, built by a team that understands what made early MapleStory so special.”

The game, which has been operational for over 20 years, includes contributions from Miyoung ‘Nemi’ Oh, who was the lead designer during its initial phase and is now revisiting the same role for Classic World.
“We hope to recreate all the features and qualities that made early MapleStory special, while also looking toward the future,” Miyoung Oh asserts.

The release date for MapleStory Classic World has yet to be determined, but gamers can expect more information later in 2025.
