Zelda: Switch 2 Edition Games Lack Standard Cloud Save Feature
The upcoming Switch 2 editions of Zelda games will not support cloud saves, raising concerns among players who want to back up their game data.
Both Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch 2 will not feature support for cloud saves. This news has prompted concerns among fans who wish to ensure their game progress is safely backed up while engaging in their adventures across Hyrule with the new console.
During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct livestream earlier this month, Nintendo showcased the upgraded versions of these iconic titles, which will offer quicker loading times, improved resolutions, and an array of new functionalities. However, it appears that cloud saves, which are standard for many modern games, won’t be part of the new gaming experience.
Despite this unexpected limitation, the anticipated upgrades promise enhanced gameplay features for both titles, and players will benefit from using the new Zelda Notes feature in the Nintendo Switch app, designed to assist with navigation, item sharing, and daily bonuses among other enhancements.
Furthermore, upcoming titles like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment are set for release in Winter 2025, allowing players to take control of Princess Zelda in a story preceding the events of Tears of the Kingdom. For now, players can transfer their save files from the original Nintendo Switch but won’t be able to create new cloud saves. This decision has sparked discussions among players regarding the future of save data management on the platform.
