The latest Elden Ring: Nightreign character reveal is an aging viking whose hobbies include swigging ale and punching dragons in the jaw
We have Godfrey at home.
One of my favorite elements of Souls games is that sometimes the best tactic for overcoming tragic, corrupted knights and primordial horrors is simply hitting them very hard with a large object. This principle is perfectly represented by the Raider, featured in Bandai Namco’s latest character reveal trailer for Elden Ring: Nightreign. He appears equally at ease using himself as a weapon as with any tool at hand.
Upon first glance, the Raider resembles a character from Skyrim who may have wandered out of Nord country and into Limgrave. For fans of Elden Ring, he’s similar to Godfrey—or perhaps more accurately, Hoarah Loux-coded: a robust, bearded gent who starts the trailer cracking his knuckles without much concern for the massive axe on his back.
If I were the sort who could casually land an uppercut on a dragon, like the Raider does moments later, I would probably be indifferent towards my great axe too.
It’s uncertain whether the Raider’s brawling skills are one-of-a-kind, or if they can be picked up as Ashes of War for Nightreign characters to utilize. Nonetheless, he clearly has a love for boxing. He punches wyverns and headbutts armored knights. And for those wondering, we do get a glimpse of him enjoying a drink, which is crucial between bouts of dragon wrestling.
The trailer also showcases what appears to be the Raider’s ultimate ability. He slams the ground, causing rocks to erupt violently as a large stone slab rises beneath him, lifting him into the air.
This slab offers intriguing utility. It can elevate you and your allies out of enemy attack range and provides a safe shooting location for the Nightreign archer character, Ironeye, who can shoot down at targets without worry. Plus, the slab can act as a launch pad for a dramatic plunging attack, which, as we all know, is the prime way to attack in any game.
Bandai Namco has previously followed Nightreign reveals with extended videos detailing character abilities, so stay tuned to the developer’s YouTube channel for further information about the Raider.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to launch on May 29, 2025.
